It also depends on the feel you want for the color. Gray and white primers make the colors pop a little more. Black primer tones the colors down a bit. WebMost horses have white markings on the leg, mostly 1, 2 or 3 legs will be marked, rarely none or all. Colour Party Paints do an excellent range of horse colour's acrylic paints. I find these work well as a thinned paint over a horse under-coated white or yellow, so that the under-coat is allowed to show through on the highlights browning hair
